Efforts to Support Family Caregivers Funded
Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation
Application deadline: Applications for National Grants will be accepted from May 31 to July 5, 2024; the Local Grants application portal will open from August 23 to September 27, 2024.
Grant amount: National Grants range up to $300,000; Local Grants range up to $7,500.
Description: The Petro‑Canada CareMakers Foundation aims to support family caregivers while inspiring a collective commitment to the cause throughout Canada. The Foundation supports registered charities that support family caregivers through two programs. National Grants are intended to drive transformational change in the lives of family caregivers across Canada. Funding is provided for projects and programs that alleviate the systematic challenges faced by family caregivers across Canada, support thought leadership and research programs that illuminate these challenges, provide new insights, suggest innovative solutions, and create tools or resources for family caregivers. Local Grants provide financial support for organizations who provide direct support to family caregivers in communities across Canada. These resources could range from educational programs, transportation, meal assistance, respite care, emotional support, financial and community support, and healthcare navigation to other types of vital assistance.
Grants Foster Economic Resilience for Disadvantaged Groups
Scotiabank Corporate Giving Program: ScotiaRISE
Application deadline: None
Geographic scope: Countries where Scotiabank does business, including Canada, the United States, and countries in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America
Description: Scotiabank's Corporate Giving Program supports registered charities and nonprofit organizations that operate in countries where Scotiabank does business, including Canada. ScotiaRISE is Scotiabank’s ten-year, $500 million initiative to promote economic resilience among disadvantaged groups. ScotiaRISE will invest in three focus areas across the geographies where Scotiabank operates: increasing high school graduation and post-secondary participation, removing barriers to career advancement for disadvantaged groups, and helping newcomers feel at home faster, including fast-tracking the way to meaningful employment in order to support newcomers' contribution to the prosperity and social fabric of their communities. Types of support include program, capital, and research support. Disaster relief funding is also available. (Scotiabank also offers support through sponsorships and the Net-Zero Research Fund, which awards research grants for decarbonization efforts.)

iA Financial Group Corporate Giving Program
Application deadline: None
Description: The iA Financial Group Corporate Giving Program supports registered charities in Canada. The company primarily supports organizations that aim to improve people's quality of life. Donations are provided in the areas of education, environment, health, and social and community support. (The company is not currently accepting sponsorship requests.)
Funding Improves Health Systems and Health Equity
Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Grants and Donations
Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from June 1 to 30 and September 1 to 30, 2024.
Description: Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada aims to drive impact for patients and the healthcare system. The company awards grants and donations to Canadian organizations in the following areas: 1) innovative digital and data initiatives that strengthen sustainable health systems leading to timely and high-quality delivery of care for patients; 2) health equity initiatives that promote equitable access, experience, and outcomes for underserved populations by addressing their specified needs; and 3) community or system-level improvement initiatives that promote a seamless care experience for patients and their families by simplifying care paths or system navigation. Priority is given to initiatives in the following therapeutic areas: cardio-metabolic, dermatology, hepatology, immunology, medical research, neuroscience, ophthalmology, radiogland therapy, respiratory, and oncology, including hematology, rare diseases, and solid tumor.

Blennerhassett Family Foundation
Application deadline: Applications should be submitted before the end of August.
Geographic scope: Primarily Manitoba
Description: The Blennerhassett Family Foundation primarily supports organizations in Manitoba. The Foundation’s current funding priorities consist of services for disadvantaged children, services for women dealing with addictions or abuse, services for the physically or mentally challenged, development of microenterprise projects, and projects to protect the environment. Types of support include project, capital, and general operating support. Registered charities are eligible to apply.
Support Enhances the Lives of Vulnerable People in Ontario
Lillian Meighen and Don Wright Foundation
Application deadline: June 30, annually, for letters of inquiry
Geographic scope: Ontario, primarily Toronto
Grant amount: Less than $100,000
Description: The Lillian Meighen and Don Wright Foundation supports Canadian charities that work to relieve suffering and enhance the quality of life of vulnerable people, with preference given to smaller charities based in Ontario and primarily in Toronto. The Foundation’s areas of interest include abused women and children, hospice care for those at the end of their lives, people with disabilities, and music therapy related to the above. Types of support include capital projects, programs, and operations. Registered charities are eligible to apply.
Funding Targets Company Communities in Saskatchewan
Innovation Federal Credit Union Corporate Giving Program
Application deadline: None for sponsorships; June 30 and December 31, 2024, for Legacy Community Development Grants
Geographic scope: Company communities in Saskatchewan
Grant amount: Legacy Community Development Grants range from $2,500 to $25,000 per year.
Description: Innovation Federal Credit Union provides support in communities served by the company in Saskatchewan. Support is provided through two programs: Sponsorships are provided for local events, programs, activities, and organizations. Areas of interest include education, food security, health, and poverty. Registered charities are eligible to apply. Legacy Community Development Grants support one-time projects for which financial assistance is required to start something new or to assist with large purchases that are not normally possible. Priority is given to capital projects such as facilities and equipment. Eligible applicants include registered charities, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, educational institutions, licensed early learning and childcare centers, and sport and recreation associations. The applying organization must be an Innovation Federal Credit Union member and operate in a Saskatchewan community.
Youth Job and Life Skills Programs Supported in Alberta
Werklund Foundation
Application deadline: June 28, 2024
Geographic scope: Alberta
Grant amount: Up to $25,000 over one year
Description: The mission of the Werklund Foundation is to transform communities by inspiring youth to achieve their full potential. The Foundation provides support for registered charities working in Alberta, including regional and national charities offering programs in Alberta. The Foundation’s current focus is to support charities to reduce barriers and create opportunities for youth ages nine to 22 to obtain skills they need for their future, including practical skills for jobs, life skills to prepare youth for independent living, social and emotional learning, leadership skills, and skills in civic and community engagement. The following programs are accepting applications: Program Grants support existing programs working directly with youth with some demonstrable outcomes. Innovation Grants are for charities trying a new approach with evidence of need for the innovation. (Applications for multi-year grants will be accepted in early 2025.)

Programs Enable Organizations to Offer Free Tax Clinics
Canada Revenue Agency
Application deadline: June 30, 2024
Geographic scope: Canada
Description: The Canada Revenue Agency will support community organizations that offer free tax clinics through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program (ITAVP) in Quebec. Grants help offset the cost of running free tax clinics and provide financial support based on eligible expenses and the number of tax returns filed.

Employment and Social Development Canada

Geographic scope: Canada
Grant amount: $5,000 for the regional awards; $10,000 for the national award
Description: Canada’s Volunteer Awards (CVA) highlight the many ways that volunteering strengthens communities. The CVA recognizes volunteers, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and businesses for their contributions across the country. The Thérèse Casgrain Lifelong Achievement Award is awarded nationally to individuals who have volunteered 20 years or more and who inspired other volunteers and made a difference through volunteering. In addition, 20 regional awards are presented in the following categories: Community Leader, Emerging Leader, Business Leader, and Social Innovator.
